Location: The King David Hotel in Jerusalem is probably the best grand hotel in Israel. The Federmann family purchased the property at the beginning of 1957. In 1961, the ruined wing of the hotel was renovated and in 1966, two extra floors were added. Since that time, the hotel has been linked with the peace process mapped out in the region and has hosted kings, queens, presidents, and heads of governments and celebrities from all walks of life. Three world leaders fleeing from their homelands sought asylum in the luxury and elegance of the hotel: King Alfonso VIII of Spain, forced to abdicate in 1931, Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia, and George II of Greece.
